Appointments

We offer both telephone and face to face appointments. Please note that if you wish to see or speak to a particular GP for a routine telephone or face to face appointment there is likely to be a wait time of approximately 4-5 weeks.

When you call to make your appointment, our care navigators will ask you for some brief information about the reason for your call. They are trained to do this and have been asked to do so by our doctors. This is so you can be offered the most appropriate appointment for your need, please be aware that this may not always be a doctor.  We ask all patients to be truthful about the reason they are calling.

Sometimes when our surgeries are full, we may ask you to ring the following day for appointment availability.

If for any reason you are unable to keep your appointment, please let us know as soon as possible. We can then offer your appointment to someone else.

If you feel you need to see a doctor urgently, please call on the day at 8:30am and the receptionist will offer you an emergency book on the day appointment if one is available. In cases of urgent appointments, it may not be possible to see the doctor of your choice but we endeavour to offer you a same day appointment.

Double appointments

If you have more than one issue to discuss with your doctor or nurse, please ask the receptionist for advice on whether you should have a double appointment.

Appointment times

We offer GP appointments at a range of times between 9am and 6pm. If you rely on public transport, tell the receptionist when booking your appointments. We will try our very best to fit your appointment around your bus times.

Your appointment

However you choose to contact us, we may offer you a consultation:

  • by phone
  • face to face at the surgery
  • by text or email

Appointments by phone, text or email can be more flexible and often means you get help sooner.

Cancelling or changing an appointment

It is increasingly difficult to manage our requested number of appointments with our clinical team, by our patients; due to the unfortunate number of appointments that our patients fail to attend, without informing us and cancelling the appointment.

This inevitably can have a knock on effect for those patients we were unable to offer an appointment to, due to being at full capacity. We politely request that if your circumstances change you let us know if you no longer wish to keep the booked appointment to allow us to support other patients.

To cancel your appointment:

  • use your NHS account (through the NHS website or NHS App)
  • using the GP online system: SystmOnline
  • phone us on 01594 542270 at anytime, to enable you to leave a message on our cancellation line

If you need help when we are closed

If you need medical help now, use NHS 111 online or call 111.

NHS 111 online is for people aged 5 and over. Call 111 if you need help for a child under 5.

Call 999 in a medical or mental health emergency. This is when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk.

If you need help with your appointment

Please tell us:

  • if there’s a specific doctor, nurse or other health professional you would prefer to respond
  • if you would prefer to consult with the doctor or nurse by phone, face-to-face, by text or email
  • if you need an interpreter
  • if you have any other access or communication needs

Home visits

If you are unable to attend the surgery because you are too ill, please telephone reception before 11am, Monday to Friday and give full details of the problem so we may judge the urgency of your call.

The practice covers a large rural area and home visits require a lot of travelling time hence we only visit those who cannot come to the surgery. Wherever possible, we ask that all patients attend the surgery for their consultation/treatment. If you are unsure whether or not you require a home visit, please discuss this with reception staff when you call.
